At the IDEX 2025 exhibition, LIG Nex1's Head of UAE Office, Eric Yoon, spoke exclusively to defensehere.com, shedding light on the company's cutting-edge defense solutions. LIG Nex1 showcased its multilayered defense systems and AI-powered unmanned systems during the event, emphasizing their commitment to advancing technology in the defense sector.

One of the key highlights of the interview was the discussion on the L-SAM missile system. Yoon revealed that LIG plans to introduce the L-SAM system to the UAE market after two years. This announcement signals the company's expansion strategy in the Middle East, where the demand for advanced defense technologies continues to rise.

In addition, Yoon shared exciting developments regarding the M-SAM 2 program. He confirmed that LIG Nex1 has secured contracts not only with the UAE but also with Saudi Arabia and Iraq, showcasing the company's growing influence in the region.

The M-SAM 2 (Mid-range Surface-to-Air Missile Block-II) system is a high-to-medium altitude air defense missile designed to engage multiple targets, including aircraft and ballistic missiles. With advanced capabilities such as multi-target simultaneous engagement and improved anti-ballistic features, the M-SAM 2 system promises high mobility and operational efficiency, making it a formidable asset in air defense.

The L-SAM system, currently in development by South Korea, is designed to counter threats from North Korea. It is a long-range surface-to-air missile system intended to intercept ballistic missiles at altitudes of 50-60 kilometers, similar to the U.S. THAAD system. With successful test flights conducted earlier this year, LIG Nex1 is confident that the system will be ready for deployment in South Korea by 2027.
