Leonardo has revealed a fresh partnership with Agenzia Industrie Difesa (AID) aimed at enhancing technological and operational advancements within this sector.

The collaboration will primarily concentrate on jointly developing conventional 155 mm artillery ammunition, with a particular focus on bolstering Italy's defense capabilities.

This 18-month collaboration, potentially renewable, seeks to harness the combined expertise and resources of both organizations to create advanced solutions that enhance the operational effectiveness of the Italian Armed Forces.

The partnership also aims to strengthen domestic production capabilities in alignment with the existing supply chain.

Leonardo will contribute its technological know-how and extensive experience in managing complex projects. The company will assume the role of design authority for the ammunition, oversee evaluation and qualification at national and international testing grounds, and manage the design and implementation of pre-series production.

Furthermore, Leonardo will support the training and instruction of personnel involved in these efforts.

AID will leverage its expertise in managing infrastructure, facilities, machinery, and logistical resources. It will play a crucial role in producing and assembling the pre-series batch and subsequently scaling up to mass production.

For more than ten years, both organizations have collaborated in producing and marketing conventional and guided ammunition across 76 mm, 127 mm, and 155 mm calibers.

This new collaboration between Leonardo and AID promises substantial benefits for Italy's defense sector. It aims not only to enhance operational capabilities but also to create additional opportunities within the defense industry and scientific research in Italy.
