L3Harris Technologies has completed the first delivery of an overhauled P-8A Poseidon to the U.S. Navy under a maintenance contract managed by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). The milestone marks the beginning of broader depot-level maintenance activities intended to sustain the Navy’s maritime patrol capabilities.
The agreement covers repair, overhaul, and program depot maintenance for the Navy’s fleet of 139 P-8A aircraft. These aircraft support a range of missions, including long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, maritime patrol, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). The scope of the contract also extends to support for foreign military sales of the aircraft.
L3Harris began work on the P-8A program in 2024 at its aircraft modification facility in Waco, Texas. The company expects to induct up to nine aircraft in the first year and is currently overhauling seven additional units, all scheduled for delivery within 2025. Maintenance operations under the current schedule are expected to continue through September 2029.
The program is part of the Navy’s broader effort to ensure the long-term operational readiness of the Poseidon fleet, which plays a central role in U.S. maritime and undersea surveillance operations.
