KoçSavunma, a Türkiye-based defense technology company specializing in naval acoustic systems and electronic solutions for maritime platforms, will showcase two of its key underwater systems "UWaT and MALAMAN" at the upcoming International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), held July 22–27 in Istanbul.
The company, a subsidiary of KoçSistem and part of the Koç Group, focuses on indigenous R&D-driven innovation, producing advanced systems with a high degree of local engineering content. At IDEF 2025, KoçSavunma will highlight its digital underwater communication capability and a new generation smart bottom mine system.
UWaT: Digital Underwater Telephone
Developed in collaboration with Türkiye’s Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK), the UWaT D-1 is a digital underwater telephone designed to enable both analog and digital acoustic communication between submarines and surface vessels. The system was first introduced in late 2024 and is currently in service aboard the MİLGEM-class corvettes of the Turkish Navy.
Compliant with NATO standards STANAG-1074, STANAG-1382, and JANUS (STANAG 4748), UWaT supports secure digital data transmission, sonar beacon signal detection, active sonar silencing, audio recording, and emergency channel monitoring. Its modular, software-defined architecture enables rapid updates in the field, while its multilingual interface and data-sharing capabilities offer adaptability across a range of naval operations.
MALAMAN: Smart Naval Mine
MALAMAN is a next-generation smart bottom mine developed jointly by KoçSavunma, MKE A.Ş., and TÜBİTAK-SAGE. Introduced at IDEF 2023, the system incorporates acoustic, magnetic, and pressure sensors to identify and classify targets, engaging only with pre-defined threat signatures.
Designed for deployment from ships, submarines, aircraft, and unmanned systems, MALAMAN is engineered for operational resilience, offering resistance to plastic-bonded explosives, kinetic shock, and thermal fluctuations. It functions at depths greater than 100 meters and across a temperature range of -2.5°C to +36°C.
KoçSavunma will exhibit at Hall 1, Booth 1-D09 during IDEF 2025, one of the largest defense industry events in the region. Organized under the auspices of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence and the Presidency of Defence Industries, IDEF is expected to draw a wide array of government delegations, defense contractors, and industry stakeholders from around the world.
