Teknopark Istanbul traces its origins to the decisions of the Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSİK) on Oct. 8, 1987. The Council of Ministers subsequently designated approximately 2.5 million m2 of a 13 million m2 expropriated area in Pendik Kurtköy for the Advanced Technology Industrial Park and Airport Project (ITEP), specifically earmarked for Teknopark Istanbul. This initiative aimed to harness contributions from both local and international entrepreneurs to enhance Türkiye’s technological capabilities.

Formally established on May 4, 2010, Teknopark Istanbul stands as Türkiye's largest deep technology center. Its development unfolded across three phases: the first phase launched in 2013, followed by the second in 2017, and the third in 2021.
