Geoff Davis, Managing Director of IDV UK, spoke to Defensehere.com during the DSEI defence exhibition held in London from September 9 to 12, 2025. He outlined the company’s priorities in the United Kingdom, describing it as a key growth market and pointing to IDV’s strategy of combining conventional vehicles with emerging uncrewed technologies.
At the exhibition, IDV presented three platforms: the Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV), the Multi-Role Utility Vehicle (MUV), and the Viking Uncrewed Ground Vehicle (UGV). Davis noted that the MUV was displayed in an ambulance configuration, reflecting its high level of modularity. He added that the platform could address requirements under the UK’s Land Mobility Programme, including troop transport, ambulance, and logistical support roles.
Davis emphasized the importance of the UK market for IDV, recalling that the company re-established its presence two years ago after an absence of around two decades. As part of this move, IDV acquired a small British company specializing in uncrewed ground vehicles in 2023. “Part of the reason for buying the uncrewed ground vehicle business is so they could accelerate this capability in uncrewed ground vehicle technology,” he said.
He explained that IDV UK already has an engineering team focused on uncrewed ground vehicle technologies, and the company continues to expand this capability for both domestic and international markets. “That technology and products we are now engaging with overseas markets across Europe and North America, obviously looking for commercial programs and also actively working with our customers on R&D programs to help understand the best applications of uncrewed technology,” Davis stated.
The IDV executive underlined growing interest from customers in both conventional and uncrewed systems, highlighting the Viking UGV on display with an integrated ISTAR package and remote weapon station. “Our customers are really interested in that configuration, where we have ISTAR and a remote weapons system working seamlessly together to enhance missions, reduce operator burden, and improve effectiveness,” he said.
Davis concluded by noting that IDV’s UK activities will continue to align with national requirements, with a strong focus on the Land Mobility Programme and the Material Distribution Land Programme.
