General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has acquired a portfolio of patents and intellectual property from San Diego-based Achates Power, a company known for its opposed-piston engine designs.

The acquisition is intended to broaden GA-ASI’s propulsion system technologies, particularly for its unmanned aircraft platforms. According to the company, the move supports efforts to enhance performance and sustainability across its aerospace systems.

Achates Power has focused on developing low-emission, fuel-efficient engines with high power density, positioning its technology for use in sectors facing strict environmental regulations.
