Spanish company Einsa has signed an agreement with Estonia’s Milrem Robotics to handle the distribution and support of its unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in Spain, including the Themis UGV, which is already in service with the country’s armed forces.
According to Info Defensa, Einsa will be responsible for commercial operations and integrated logistics support (ILS), covering customer assistance, maintenance, upgrades, training, and the potential local production of Milrem platforms for the Spanish market.
The Themis UGV has been in operation with the Spanish Army since mid-2022 as part of its UGV experimentation program. The platform is currently in service in 19 countries and has been used in Ukraine for casualty evacuation, route clearance, and other tasks in the ongoing conflict with Russia, according to Milrem Robotics.
Patrick Shepherd, Milrem Robotics’ sales director, stated that the partnership would help enhance operational capabilities by providing "reliable and proven robotic solutions." He also described Einsa as "a valuable partner in delivering Milrem’s advanced UGVs to Spain’s defense and security forces."
Einsa’s General Manager, David Ayala, emphasized that the agreement positions the company as "a key supplier of unmanned solutions in Spain," highlighting its ability to integrate various payloads and offer both wheeled and tracked UGVs.
In addition to its role with Milrem’s Themis UGV, Einsa has developed its own unmanned ground vehicle, the Alano, in collaboration with Sener Aeroespacial y Defensa and Spain’s National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA). The Alano has recently been acquired by the Spanish Ministry of Defense.
