Tajikistan acquires Chinese HQ-17AE air defense system

Tajikistan has procured the Chinese-made HQ-17AE air defense system, enhancing its military capabilities. The acquisition marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to modernize its air defense infrastructure.

The HQ-17AE is an advanced short-range air defense system designed to counter aerial threats, including aircraft, helicopters, and drones. It features modern radar technology and improved targeting capabilities, providing enhanced protection against low-altitude and fast-moving targets.

While specific details about the deal, including the number of systems acquired and financial terms, have not been disclosed, the purchase underscores Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening its national defense. The move aligns with the country’s broader strategy to enhance its military readiness amid regional security concerns.

China continues to expand its defense exports, with the HQ-17AE being one of its latest offerings in air defense technology. The acquisition by Tajikistan further reflects Beijing’s growing influence in Central Asia’s security landscape.
