China: Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet Spotted in Flight!

Reports indicate that China has conducted the first-ever flight of a sixth-generation tactical fighter-bomber. Images and videos circulating on the Chinese social media platform Weibo today show an aircraft, seemingly twin-engine, flying alongside a fifth-generation J-20 fighter jet. According to some experts, this could either be a sixth-generation fighter or the new Chinese bomber, the JHXX.

Details about the JHXX remain scarce, but it is reportedly designed as a smaller tactical bomber to complement the larger H-20 stealth strategic bomber. The new aircraft, whose name has not yet been revealed, is expected to fill a critical gap in China’s tactical strike capabilities.

The new fighter-bomber features stealth attributes, including a diamond-shaped wing design reminiscent of American sixth-generation fighter concepts. While the aircraft’s specific capabilities remain classified, its development underscores China’s commitment to enhancing its tactical airpower. The design emphasizes stealth and radar evasion, and the aircraft’s apparent size suggests it could carry advanced guided munitions, including anti-ship and air-to-ground missiles.

December 26 holds significant historical importance for China as it marks the birthday of Mao Zedong, the founder of the People’s Republic of China and a revered figure in the nation. It is perhaps no coincidence that this date was chosen for the maiden flights of what appear to be two new Chinese combat aircraft or demonstrators. The first is reportedly developed by the AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Research and Design Institute (known as the 611 Institute), and the second by the Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute (601 Institute).

This milestone reflects China’s determination to maintain its edge in next-generation military aviation technology.
