Rheinmetall, Anduril team up for European air and propulsion tech

Rheinmetall and Anduril Industries have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop a new generation of autonomous air systems and propulsion solutions for Europe. The initiative focuses on integrating key technologies into Rheinmetall’s digital sovereignty architecture, with joint development and production planned across the continent.

The collaboration includes:

  • A European variant of Anduril’s Barracuda, a low-cost, mass-manufactured autonomous air vehicle, to be integrated into Rheinmetall’s Battlesuite ecosystem.
  • The adaptation of Fury, a high-performance, Group 5 multi-mission UAV designed for manned-unmanned teaming.
  • The development of solid rocket motors using Anduril’s scalable production methods to enhance European propulsion capabilities.

The partnership emphasizes local industrial participation, modularity, and rapid deployment, aiming to deliver systems that are tailored to national requirements and aligned with NATO standards.

“This is a different model of defense collaboration, built on shared production and mutual respect for sovereignty,” said Brian Schimpf, CEO of Anduril Industries.

Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger added: “By integrating these solutions into our European production base, we’re expanding our ability to deliver autonomous capabilities that meet the evolving needs of European forces.”

The agreement builds on earlier joint efforts by the two companies, including counter-UAS systems and a bid for the U.S. Army’s OMFV program. It represents a long-term commitment to strengthening European defense autonomy through scalable, adaptable, and sovereign technologies.
