Poland has finalized negotiations with South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem for a second batch of K2 main battle tanks in a deal estimated to be worth approximately $6.5 billion, according to a Reuters report citing South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
The agency said the contract will be signed soon, though specific details—including the number of tanks—will be disclosed at a later date. South Korean news outlet Yonhap reported that the agreement covers 180 tanks, matching the first batch purchased by Poland in 2022.
While the initial deal focused on swift delivery of Korean-built vehicles amid heightened regional tensions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the second phase is expected to involve deeper industrial cooperation. DAPA stated that a production facility will be established in Poland, enabling local assembly of a significant number of K2 tanks in partnership with Polish defense firms.
Hyundai Rotem has not commented on the reported deal. The move marks an expansion of South Korea’s defense footprint in Europe, as Poland continues its large-scale military modernization program.
