David Voskuhl, Vice President – Communication & PR at Diehl Defence, presented the company’s new counter-drone system CICADA in an interview with Defensehere.com.
CICADA, an electrically driven missile, is designed to neutralize threats from Class 1 and Class 2 drones. The system is being presented under this name for the first time in Europe.
According to Voskuhl, CICADA will be available in two configurations: a non-lethal variant equipped with a net payload designed to capture drones mid-air, and a lethal version integrating a fragmentation warhead to destroy targets. Both versions are intended to address different operational requirements, making the system suitable for both civilian and military applications.
CICADA operates as part of Diehl Defence’s modular air defence architecture known as Sky Sphere, which covers the entire sensor-to-shooter chain. The Sky Sphere system can be customized for specific customer needs using in-house or partner components. The company expects CICADA to be market-ready by 2026.
