L3Harris Technologies has completed a $125 million expansion of its space manufacturing facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The 95,000-square-foot addition will support the Department of Defense’s efforts to enhance on-orbit missile warning and defense capabilities, contributing to the development of a “Golden Dome” over the United States.
The expanded facility will handle engineering, integration, testing, and program management for L3Harris’ missile defense programs. It is designed to produce up to 48 payloads per year, aligning with national security priorities.
L3Harris currently has five satellites on orbit and 34 in development for the Space Development Agency’s Tracking Layer and the Missile Defense Agency’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) program. The facility will also support increased satellite production for civil weather programs.
