Denmark has received the first two Patria 6×6 armoured personnel carriers, delivered as part of an order financed through the Accelerationsfonden. The vehicles arrived on Bornholm, where they will be used for training and education before broader operational deployment.
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said:
“With the purchase of armoured personnel carriers from Patria, we are broadly strengthening the Army with a contribution to both the light infantry battalion and the heavy brigade, so that Denmark’s defence is modernised and the soldiers have updated equipment. It is only a few months since the political decision on the acquisition was made, and now the first armoured personnel carriers have already arrived in Denmark. It is a good example that we are really bringing speed into the build-up of the Armed Forces.”
The Ministry of Defence announced in April that a total of 129 vehicles will be procured, with the remainder expected from 2026. Early delivery enables personnel training ahead of full-scale deployment.
Colonel Thomas Ø. Knudsen, Head of the Land Division at the Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (FMI), stated:
“The first vehicles have now arrived in Denmark so that in the coming period we can train mechanics and other specialists ahead of the final delivery of the vehicles to the Army at the turn of the year. The vehicle has been purchased in a project partnership with Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Germany and is produced in Finland with several Nordic, including Danish, subcontractors. The rapid acquisition is the result of good and close Nordic cooperation, where joint Nordic vehicles provide a high degree of supply security and the opportunity to support each other logistically.”
The Patria 6×6 vehicles will serve multiple roles across the light infantry battalion and heavy brigade. Configurations include command and communications, ambulance, and electronic warfare. Each vehicle accommodates two crew members and up to ten soldiers.
