At the LAAD Defence and Security exhibition held in April in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian defense company Mac Jee unveiled a mock-up of its under-development hypersonic missile, drawing attention from international observers. The display marked a notable step forward for Brazil, which is among a limited number of countries currently working to develop indigenous hypersonic capabilities.

Hypersonic missiles which are capable of traveling at speeds exceeding Mach 5 while maintaining high maneuverability, represent one of the most advanced and strategically significant weapon technologies today.

Currently, only a few countries, including the United States, Russia, China, North Korea, India and Iran are known to possess operational or test-phase hypersonic systems. Nations such as France, the United Kingdom, Japan, and now Brazil are actively developing their own variants. Brazil’s efforts place it among a growing but still exclusive group seeking to achieve independent access to this next-generation capability.

Simon Jeannot, Chairman of the Board at Mac Jee, shared insights with defensehere.com about the company’s broader activities and future plans. He emphasized Mac Jee’s commitment to innovation, noting that the hypersonic missile program is just one part of a wider portfolio that includes precision-guided munitions, defense technologies, and advanced engineering systems.

Mac Jee Group operates as part of Brazil’s Industrial Defense Base, comprising Mac Jee Defesa, Mac Jee Tecnologia, and Equipaer—three companies that are fully Brazilian-owned and technology-focused. Headquartered in Sao José dos Campos, with additional offices in Sao Paulo and France, the group maintains a global outlook while supporting national defense priorities.
