General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has announced an investment in Dutch technology firm Arceon, marking the latest step in the company’s ongoing engagement with the Netherlands’ innovation ecosystem. The decision follows Arceon’s pitch at the inaugural Blue Magic Netherlands (BMN) event held in November 2024.
Arceon specializes in advanced ceramic composites designed for use in space and defense applications. Its proprietary melt infiltration process enables the scalable production of carbon-ceramic components suited for high-temperature and high-stress environments, including nozzles, nose caps, leading edges, and structural airframe parts.
The investment was made after a series of discussions involving GA-ASI and its sister companies General Atomics Energy and General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems. Arceon now joins Emergent Swarm Solutions and Saluqi Motors as Dutch firms receiving backing from GA-ASI through the BMN platform.
GA-ASI Managing Director Brad Lunn stated that Arceon’s technology could support a range of applications across General Atomics’ portfolio, including hypersonic systems, engine exhaust solutions, and fusion containment.
The BMN event, jointly organized by GA-ASI, the Dutch Ministries of Defense and Economic Affairs, Brainport Development, and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM), was aimed at connecting local innovators with global defense stakeholders. GA-ASI is currently under contract to deliver eight MQ-9A remotely piloted aircraft to the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
The company indicated that a second BMN event is planned for later this year in Eindhoven, continuing its efforts to build long-term partnerships with Dutch industry and government.
