ULAK Communications, which continues field trials of national solutions to be used in the transition to 5G technology, will launch its 5G service by establishing a Smart Transportation Systems infrastructure in the Hasdal region by the end of 2025.
TEKNOFEST TRNC, where Anadolu Agency (AA) is the global communication partner, is held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with the main coordination of the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation) and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with participation from 132 institutions, including public bodies, tech giants, universities, and media outlets, at the old Ercan Airport.
ULAK Communications showcased its national communication solutions at the fair, presenting its products and capabilities.
The company continues its activities with the vision of developing communication technologies using national products. ULAK Communications, which provides service with 3,130 4.5G base stations across Türkiye, offers users uninterrupted and secure communication.
ULAK Communications CEO Ruşen Kömürcü spoke to AA about the work being carried out on the road to 5G technology.
Emphasizing that they are focusing on meeting infrastructure and software needs in 5G with national communication products, Kömürcü said, “We are continuing our field test trials for the 5G transition process without slowing down, thanks to our work with industrial companies and operators.”
He noted that while continuing LTE modernization field tests at existing commercial sites, they are also developing necessary technologies for the establishment of new 5G sites:
“As our 4.5G + 5G base station field tests continue, we have also started closed-loop private network field tests (Mobile Private Network) using our 5G base station. By the end of 2025, we will launch 5G service by establishing a Smart Transportation Systems infrastructure in the Hasdal region. This infrastructure includes the installation of 5G-supported smart transportation systems at 19 sites along a 40 km corridor between Istanbul Hasdal Junction and Istanbul Airport. It will allow vehicles and transport infrastructure to communicate Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N), enabling high-speed, low-latency, and secure data communication.”
Export activities to accelerate
Kömürcü stated that they have engaged in overseas contacts and export initiatives for LTE-A technology, and ULAK base stations are actively serving private network solutions in Tajikistan, Niger, and Sudan.
“Today, we are operating effectively abroad with our domestic and national communication technologies,” he said. “Our base stations actively used in Tajikistan, Niger, and Sudan are making significant contributions to regional communication infrastructure. With 5G technology, we aim to further accelerate our exports, especially in Turkic republics and the African region, through both private network and operator solutions.”
