Established in 2007, Pakistan’s Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS) has grown into one of the country’s largest defense firms, exporting to over 14 countries and boasting a portfolio of more than 200 products. In an exclusive interview with defensehere.com, GIDS CEO Asad Kamal provided insights into the company’s latest advancements, including the newly unveiled Shahpar-III UCAV and its broader ambitions in the global defense market.
Making its first public appearance at the IDEAS-2024 expo in November, the Shahpar-III represents a significant leap in Pakistan’s indigenous aerospace capabilities. Jointly unveiled by Asad Kamal and Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, the Shahpar-III is classified as a Group-4+ UCAV, designed to rival platforms like the MQ-9 Reaper.
Developed at an estimated cost of $100 million, the Shahpar-III integrates advanced avionics and a domestic flight control system. It features a dual-redundant 1553 architecture flight control computer, ensuring high reliability. The UCAV is capable of fulfilling multiple operational roles, including ISR, ISTAR, CAS, and maritime missions. Furthermore, it is designed to carry a range of Pakistani-made munitions such as Barq missiles and Al Battaar laser-guided bombs, with the flexibility to integrate additional weapon systems.
Beyond the Shahpar-III, Asad Kamal highlighted the company’s extensive product range, covering various domains such as electronic warfare, air defense, and guided munitions. He underscored GIDS’ commitment to advancing Pakistan’s defense industry by continuously innovating and collaborating with global partners.
