Saudi Arabia’s SAMI partners with US based Amentum on land systems

Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has signed an agreement with US-based Amentum to provide maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade (MROU) services for the Kingdom’s combat land vehicles.

According to Amentum’s announcement, the company will work alongside SAMI Land teams to maintain ground systems used by the Saudi Armed Forces. Andy White, senior vice president of Amentum Energy & Environment International, said the partnership aims to “help SAMI Land establish the technical, commercial and business processes for long-term success.”

SAMI Land, a division focused on armored vehicles and land systems, is one of five business units under the SAMI umbrella, alongside naval, aerospace, defense systems, and advanced electronics divisions.

Mohammed bin Saud Alhodaib, executive vice president of SAMI Land, stated that the agreement supports the company’s objective of building capabilities “to meet customer MROU requirements with operational excellence.” He added that it would contribute to “knowledge transfer and localizing technologies,” aligning with Saudi Arabia’s plans to expand domestic defense production.

Amentum, headquartered in Virginia, provides civilian and defense services ranging from cybersecurity to intelligence analysis. The firm highlights its specialization in modernizing defense systems and integrating advanced technologies. In January 2024, it was awarded a US Army contract valued at $946 billion to maintain and modernize fixed-wing transport aircraft.

Saudi Arabia has set a defense budget of $78 billion for 2025, compared with $75.8 billion in 2024. The investment is part of the country’s Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to increase local production of defense platforms to 50 percent by the end of the decade through technology transfer and partnerships with international firms.
