Saab and Aalto University have announced the extension of their research collaboration for another decade, securing a minimum investment of 10 million euros. This renewed agreement ensures the continuation of strategic research efforts in key technological fields essential to Saab’s operations.
Initially launched in 2017, the partnership has focused on advancing antenna technology, micro-electronics, radar signal processing, artificial intelligence, and hydroacoustic sensing. With the newly extended agreement, Saab and Aalto University will continue their joint research from 2027 to 2036, further reinforcing their commitment to innovation.
“Saab’s successful history is built on constant innovation. To maintain our position, we must understand and leverage emerging technologies at the forefront of research. Our collaboration with Aalto University is a testament to the benefits of cooperation between academia, industry, and government,” said Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
Aalto University President Ilkka Niemelä highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration enables Aalto University to invest in long-term research in critical technological fields. Thanks to this agreement, we can expand and deepen our research while training new experts in cutting-edge disciplines.”
The research program has already yielded significant academic contributions, including eight doctoral graduates, with three more expected to complete their studies in 2025. Additionally, numerous Master’s degrees have been awarded in fields directly linked to Saab’s operations. Many of these graduates have joined Saab’s development teams in Tampere, playing key roles in advancing new sensor technologies.
By extending their collaboration, Saab and Aalto University reaffirm their shared vision for technological advancement, ensuring continued innovation and academic excellence for the next decade.
