Rostec has delivered a new batch of BMPT “Terminator” tank support vehicles to Russian armed forces. The delivery was carried out by Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), Rostec’s armored vehicle manufacturer, ahead of Russian Ground Forces Day.
According to Rostec, the 2025 production variant differs from earlier models supplied prior to the conflict in Ukraine. The updated version includes expanded dynamic protection, additional side armor, and counter-drone cage systems. The vehicles are also fitted with electronic warfare equipment, features that have been integrated across other modernized Russian armored platforms.
Alexander Potapov, general director of Uralvagonzavod, said:
“Uralvagonzavod is fulfilling a large order for BMPTs — the demand for this vehicle is high. It was always believed that the main strike force of the Ground Forces was the tank. Now we can say that BMPTs have joined them.”
The BMPT — short for Boevaya Mashina Podderzhki Tankov (Tank Support Fighting Vehicle) — is a heavily armed tracked vehicle designed to provide direct fire support for tanks or to operate independently. It was initially conceived after Russian forces suffered significant armored losses in urban combat during the Chechen wars. The vehicle is equipped with a digital fire-control system capable of engaging up to three targets simultaneously at different ranges and angles, both while stationary and on the move.Operational experience, according to Rostec, has demonstrated that BMPTs can be employed either alongside tanks or as independent combat units. Engineers at Uralvagonzavod continue to refine the design based on battlefield feedback.
