He noted that the Evolution model incorporates a new engine, a modern central tire inflation system, and a fully digital driver’s compartment. According to Laves, the upgraded design also features enhanced armor protection, bringing the vehicle in line with contemporary battlefield requirements.
Laves underlined that the Fuchs platform has been in service with the German Army for over four decades and remains operational in more than 20 countries, with between 30 and 40 different mission modules ranging from troop transport and medical evacuation to NBC reconnaissance and electronic warfare.
At DSEI, Rheinmetall showcased a version developed specifically for anti-armor missions in cooperation with Lockheed Martin. Laves explained that this configuration integrates six quad launchers mounted at the rear of the vehicle, enabling the launch of 24 Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM). He pointed out that this capability positions the Fuchs Evolution as a next-generation tank destroyer designed to complement main battle tanks by engaging armored formations at standoff ranges.
He emphasized that the JAGM, produced by Lockheed Martin, offers multi-mode targeting and can strike modern tanks from above with ranges extending up to 16 kilometers. The system, he added, allows the vehicle to engage a large number of armored threats without the need to operate directly at the frontline.
