Patria hosts Latvian-German delegation for CAVS update

Patria welcomed a delegation from Latvia and Germany to its Valmiera production facility, providing insights into the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme. The visit included a tour led by Uģis Romanovs, Managing Director of Patria Latvia and Defence Partnership Latvia, who showcased the full-cycle production process of armoured vehicles.

The CAVS programme, initiated in 2019 as a multinational defence cooperation project, was originally established by Finland and Latvia with the goal of developing a next-generation armoured vehicle system. The Patria 6x6 was selected as the platform for the programme, which has since expanded to include Sweden and Germany. The programme remains open to new participants that meet the operational requirements and gain approval from existing members.

A key aspect of the CAVS programme is its emphasis on strengthening European defence capabilities through joint procurement, interoperability, and the use of local industry resources. The vast majority of vehicle production is conducted within member nations, ensuring a secure and sustainable supply chain. Additionally, the programme's modular approach allows the Patria 6x6 to be adapted for various operational roles, including troop transport, medical evacuation, reconnaissance, and combat missions.

To date, the Finnish company has received orders for over 800 Patria 6x6 vehicles under the CAVS framework. The initiative has also secured funding from the European Defence Industry Reinforcement Instrument through Joint Procurement (EDIRPA), further reinforcing multinational collaboration and defence resilience among participating nations.

The Finnish defense giant expressed its appreciation for the visit and reiterated its commitment to advancing the CAVS programme as a key enabler of European defence cooperation.
