Patria conducts live fire tests of new ARVE 155mm artillery system

Patria has completed a series of live-fire tests for its new 155mm mobile artillery system, ARVE (Artillery on Vehicle), designed for Arctic operations. The trials involved multiple firings at varied elevation and traverse angles, including direct fire scenarios. The system maintained performance across all configurations, including with high overpressure charges.

Developed as a modular and mobile extension of the Finnish 155K98 towed artillery, ARVE is mounted on a Sisu all-terrain truck platform. The system is fully compatible with existing Finnish artillery infrastructure, including ammunition, spare parts, and maintenance procedures. It also meets NATO standards for artillery munitions and fire control.

The ARVE platform was first introduced in March 2025 at an international Arctic-focused defense event in Lapland. Patria says the system was developed with the current regional security climate in mind and is intended to function reliably under harsh environmental conditions.

According to Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business area, the successful test campaign marks a significant step in validating the system’s technical readiness. He emphasized its flexibility, integration potential, and mobility as key features for both domestic and international users.

Designed to operate as part of broader indirect fire systems, ARVE can be integrated into multiple vehicle types and customer-specific command and fire control networks. It also features the ability to target naval assets.

Patria expects production of the system to generate employment impacts across several Finnish provinces, estimating at least 70 person-years annually depending on order volumes.
