NATO awards IT infrastructure contract to Thales-Proximus consortium

A consortium made up of Thales and Proximus has been awarded a contract by NATO’s Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) to enhance and manage critical elements of the agency’s business network infrastructure.

The agreement covers five NCIA sites and aims to increase the network’s operational efficiency, security, and resilience. The contract includes a fully managed IT service, incorporating cloud-based infrastructure, advanced cybersecurity tools, and upgraded networking systems.

Thales is set to provide the secure cloud environment and manage the overall service, while Proximus will deliver end-user hardware, upgrade Wi-Fi networks at NCIA sites in The Hague and Braine-l’Alleud, and ensure high-speed cloud access for approximately 5,000 personnel.

Key deliverables under the agreement include:

  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) hosted on certified and accredited cloud platforms
  • Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) support for NCIA personnel
  • Enhanced cybersecurity measures
  • High-speed networking infrastructure
  • Scalable storage and high-performance computing capabilities

According to the consortium, the modernization project will support real-time communications, data management, and collaboration across multiple NATO sites. It also introduces mechanisms for improved compatibility and system upgrades.

The project is backed by defined performance standards and service level agreements, aiming to ensure reliable service continuity and robust digital security across NCIA’s operations.

The financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
