Israeli firms banned from Dutch NEDS exhibition

The organizers of the Netherlands’ largest defense exhibition have informed Israeli defense companies that they will not be permitted to participate in this year’s event in Rotterdam.

The NIDV Exhibition Defense & Security (NEDS), an annual showcase focused largely on the maritime sector, has regularly hosted major Israeli defense firms such as Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Elbit Systems, and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. However, according to letters sent in recent days, Israeli companies have been barred from the 2025 edition scheduled for November 20. Israeli officials confirmed they would not be attending. The exhibition organizers did not respond to requests for comment.

The decision comes amid a shift in Dutch policy toward Israel. Earlier this year, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp announced support for a legal review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which serves as the framework for relations with the European Union. The review concluded that Israel is in violation of international law. Since then, the Netherlands has sought to advance sanctions, including suspending Israeli companies from the EU’s Horizon innovation program and scaling back trade.

The Netherlands halted direct weapons exports to Israel in early 2024 following Israel's attacks on Gaza, after a court ruling on the matter. Dutch companies, however, continue to indirectly supply Israel with parts for the F-35 fighter jet via third countries.

The decision adds to recent restrictions on Israeli defense companies in Europe. In June 2024, they were not allowed to participate in pavilions at the Eurosatory arms exhibition near Paris.

At last year’s NEDS exhibition, IAI displayed systems including the Barak air defense system and its drones, while Rafael showcased the naval version of the Iron Dome. Elbit Systems has also previously presented naval warfare solutions. This year’s event will mark the 36th edition of the exhibition.
