Indra conducts combat cloud flight tests for Spanish Armed Forces

Indra Group has demonstrated its new flight test capabilities to the Spanish Air and Space Force, conducting one of Europe’s first tests using combat cloud technology. The trials took place at the company’s Flight Test Center in Rozas, Lugo, where the Spanish Chief of Air and Space Force, General Francisco Braco, attended alongside Indra Group CEO Ángel Escribano and senior defense officials.

During the visit, Indra carried out a live flight test with its NIMBUS combat cloud, a system designed to enable collaborative combat operations by linking next-generation sensors and platforms through a secure digital network. The test integrated real and virtual environments using Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) simulation, allowing aircraft, simulators, and AI-generated entities to interact in a shared operational scenario.

All data from the exercise were transmitted in real time to Indra’s Operational Analysis Center of Excellence in Madrid for evaluation. According to Escribano, the new testing capabilities “allow us to control the entire life cycle in the development of systems, from design and integration into the aircraft to validation, speeding up their delivery.” He added that Indra is now positioned “to respond to the present and future needs of the Spanish Air and Space Force by delivering more robust, secure and optimized systems.”

Indra’s Rozas Flight Test Center is being developed as a core site for next-generation defense technologies, including electronic warfare, radar, sensors, and airborne communication systems. The site features a telemetry and mission analysis room, a large hangar housing Tecnam and Optionally Piloted Aircraft, and a ground control station. Additional resources include portable control units, a cockpit for training and interface tests, and an antenna and mission control tower. The facility will also integrate the Tarsis drone family for support operations.

Located away from commercial flight paths, the Rozas airfield provides controlled airspace for testing. The site operates in close collaboration with Spain’s National Institute of Aerospace Technologies (INTA) and its Rozas Airborne Research Center (CIAR).

In addition to the NIMBUS demonstration, Indra showcased progress on its VALERO weapon system, a multipurpose air vehicle based on national technology. Designed for electronic warfare, decoy missions, and weapon integration, VALERO has undergone multiple test flights over the past two years. The system is part of Indra’s broader strategy to anticipate defense and market requirements.
