Indonesia has not yet made a decision on purchasing missiles from BrahMos Aerospace, a company co-owned by the Indian and Russian governments, according to a spokesperson from the country’s Defence Ministry on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The spokesperson, Frega Wenas, clarified that multiple missile systems are under consideration by Indonesia, not just those from BrahMos. While discussing the matter after a meeting between Indonesia’s Defence Minister and his Vietnamese counterpart, Wenas refrained from naming other companies involved in the consideration process.
In 2023, BrahMos had revealed that it was in advanced talks with Jakarta for a potential deal worth between $200 million and $350 million. However, Wenas emphasized that no official statement could be made at this stage due to the absence of a formal contract, stating, "For now it is one of our considerations to review."
BrahMos Aerospace did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.
Indonesia is currently negotiating with BrahMos to procure both a shore-based version of its mid-range missiles and a variant that can be mounted on warships. The company has also garnered interest from potential buyers across Southeast Asia and West Asia. BrahMos secured its first foreign deal with the Philippines in 2022.
