The Albanian Armed Forces will receive LMV2 light multirole vehicles produced by IVECO DEFENCE VEHICLES (IDV), marking the first delivery of the platform to Albania. The program is funded by the European Union through the European Peace Facility and is being implemented by Italy’s Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AID).
The LMV2 is the latest generation of IDV’s light multirole vehicle family, with more than 4,000 units of the original LMV already in service worldwide. The platform has been selected by over 15 countries and is designed for a variety of mission profiles, ranging from patrol and command posts to logistics, artillery support, and electronic warfare.
The LMV2 features an upgraded 220 hp engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and improved suspension and tire systems, providing higher payload capacity and off-road mobility. Safety improvements include a crashworthy crew cell for up to five personnel, enhanced protection against mines and kinetic threats, and a redesigned internal layout for crew ergonomics.
Maintenance has been streamlined with improved subsystem accessibility and a digital dashboard that provides health monitoring and technical data. Its modular design allows for multiple configurations and varying levels of protection, enabling adaptation to different operational needs.
The delivery comes shortly after the announcement that Leonardo will acquire Iveco Defence, IDV’s parent company, in a €1.7 billion deal expected to close in early 2026. The acquisition is intended to expand Leonardo’s role in the European land defense sector by integrating wheeled vehicle platforms into its broader portfolio.
