ICEYE and Safran launch AI partnership for geospatial intelligence

ICEYE and Safran.AI have announced a long-term strategic partnership aimed at delivering advanced multi-sensor AI solutions for geospatial intelligence (GEOINT), with the goal of helping governments make faster, more accurate decisions.

The collaboration combines ICEYE’s commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation—the largest in the world—with Safran.AI’s recognized expertise in vision-based artificial intelligence. The SAR imagery enables all-weather, day-and-night detection and classification of targets, supporting defense and intelligence missions such as military activity monitoring. ICEYE’s SAR satellites feature high revisit rates, rapid image delivery, and resolutions of up to 25 centimeters.

“Artificial intelligence on the battlefield has a major impact on both strategic and tactical levels,” the companies stated. “It accelerates the intelligence cycle by processing information in near real time and extracting the most critical insights for time-sensitive operations.”

The partnership is expected to elevate Safran.AI’s capabilities in SAR imagery to a new level. By combining this with its existing strength in electro-optical satellite image analysis, Safran will develop multi-modal AI solutions to support persistent global monitoring and decision-making.

The announcement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies. Safran already supplies ICEYE with space-to-ground data transmission links that enable rapid delivery of high-resolution imagery.

“This partnership with Safran.AI allows us to maximize the value of our SAR data by integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies,” said Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-Founder of ICEYE. “By adding ICEYE SAR imagery to Safran’s analytic capabilities, we bring together the industry’s best imagery with the industry’s best multi-sensor image exploitation capability.”

Jean-Yves Courtois, CEO of Safran.AI, added: “This partnership represents a major breakthrough for our customers and the geospatial intelligence community. By closely collaborating with ICEYE, we will achieve automatic SAR image analysis performance comparable to those of our electro-optical image detectors. Furthermore, we will integrate both imagery sources through multi-modal AI, empowering governments with continuous monitoring capabilities tailored to both their commercial and sovereign data sources.”
