Hanwha and Diehl explore cooperation on air defense systems

Hanwha and Diehl Defence have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore potential cooperation in the field of ground-based air defence (GBAD), the companies announced on October 23, 2025.

Under the agreement, the partners will assess possibilities for integrating Hanwha’s surface-to-air missile (SAM) radar system into Diehl Defence’s GBAD solutions. The cooperation aims to combine their respective capabilities to develop joint offerings for potential customers, including the Republic of Korea and other international markets.

According to the statement, Hanwha and Diehl Defence also intend to establish a long-term strategic partnership for future collaboration.

Diehl Defence currently provides a family of GBAD systems, including the short- and medium-range IRIS-T SLS and IRIS-T SLM, which have been selected by eleven countries. Integrating Hanwha’s radar into Diehl’s system configurations would allow the German manufacturer to adapt its systems to a wider range of operational requirements.
