Ukrainians in Istanbul protest Russian intervention

Ukrainian citizens living in Turkish metropolis Istanbul staged a protest against Russian intervention in Ukraine on Thursday.

The protesters carrying banners and Ukrainian flags gathered at the Istiklal Avenue and chanted slogans against Russia.

Tatiyana Ozyildiz, speaking on behalf of the group, said Russia launched an attack on their country early in the morning, and targeted sleeping citizens with tanks, rockets, and helicopters.

The protesters demanded an end to the war, saying they could get in contact with their relatives in Ukraine from time to time.

Early Thursday, Russia announced a military intervention in Ukraine, drawing international condemnation and vows of tougher sanctions on Moscow.

Explosions were reported in several Ukrainian provinces, including the capital Kyiv, and tanks reportedly crossed the border from Belarus into Ukraine.
