Ukrainian drone-missile "Palianytsia" enters battlefield

The Minister of Strategic Industry of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kamyshin, announced that the newly developed drone-missile Palianytsia was used for the first time on the battlefield.

Stating that Palianytsia hit an important Russian military facility in the Voronezh region, Kamyshin underlined that the system was developed over a period of about a year and a half. According to Minister Kamyshin, Palianytsia provides the Ukrainian army with very specific operational capabilities, as it fits the definition of both a drone and a missile.

After Kamyshin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated the attack on the Russian military facility and said that the cost of the drone-missile is much lower than its counterparts and that they are working on reducing its cost and increasing its production.

In his statements, Zelenskyy also said that Palianytsia was launched from land-based platforms and had a turbojet engine.

Ukrainian sources underlined that Palianytsia is a long-range system and can also be used effectively in different operations due to its suitability for different warheads.

In January 2024, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced that a new jet-powered drone had made its first flight in Ukraine but did not share any information about the details of the system.

Ukraine continues to invest in drones for use in the war against Russia. The Kyiv administration, which has also procured a large number of drones from allied countries, is expected to continue this strategy.
