UK announces nearly $800M worth of support for Ukraine

The British foreign secretary on Wednesday announced a new support package for Ukraine, including fiscal support and military equipment deliveries.

David Lammy announced at least £242 million ($315 million) of funding to support Ukraine in the face of Russian attacks, and the deployment of $484 million of fiscal support as well as military equipment deliveries.

The foreign secretary's announcement came amid his joint visit to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with his US counterpart Antony Blinken to show continued support.

During their first-ever joint visit, Blinken and Lammy will reiterate united UK and US support for Ukraine, said a statement by the Foreign Office.

Earlier, Prime Minister Keir Starmer committed to £3 billion ($3.9 billion) a year of military support for Ukraine for as long as needed.

"The UK’s support to Ukraine is unwavering. Our commitment of over £600 million worth of support is the latest installment in our enduring support to Ukraine," Lammy said in the statement.

He added: "This will provide vital support to Ukrainians as they continue to endure relentless Russian attacks."

The statement added that Lammy will also announce the first investment into Ukraine by British International Investment, the UK’s development finance institute under the G7 initiated Ukraine Investment Platform.

Separately, Defense Secretary John Healey has also confirmed that military support, announced in April, including air defense missiles and equipment for F16 fighter jets, have now been delivered.

Pointing out the urgent need to continue stepping up their support to Ukraine, Healey said: "So I am pleased to confirm additional aid will reach Ukraine by the end of this year."
