The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Ireland of FGM-148 Javelin missiles and Lightweight Command Launch Units (CLUs) for an estimated cost of $46 million.
The principal contractor will be Raytheon-Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture.
This proposed sale will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to improve the security of a partner country that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.
The proposed sale will improve Ireland’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing a precise, man-portable anti-armor system. Ireland will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.
Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Ireland.
