HII has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army to develop a prototype High-Energy Laser (HEL) weapon system. The contract, managed by the Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO), supports the advancement of directed energy technologies.
The HEL system will be integrated onto a Stryker combat vehicle. Its purpose is to strengthen the Army’s short-range air defense against drones, rockets, artillery, and mortars.
HII’s Mission Technologies division will lead the project, providing engineering, software development, and system integration. The company will also coordinate testing and evaluation efforts to meet Army requirements.
HII stated that the project supports the military’s modernization goals and reflects the company’s focus on advanced defense technologies.
