During a meeting hosted by the Turkish American Business Council (TAIK) and the American Turkish Business Development Council (ATBR) in Washington, Turkish firearms pioneer CANiK's new factory in the U.S. was showcased as a notable example of collaboration within the defense industry, coinciding with the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit Program.
CANiK participated in a Round Table Meeting convened by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, also held alongside the NATO summit. This event, jointly organized by TAIK and ATBR, garnered significant attention, with high-profile attendees including Yaşar Güler, Türkiye’s National Defense Minister, and General Tod D. Wolters, distinguished for his extensive service in US NATO missions.
The meeting, which saw the presence of Haluk Görgün, Head of Defense Industries Presidency (SSB), represented a pinnacle of engagement, moderated by ATBR Board Member Gregory Bloom and steered by Murat Özyeğin, Head of TAIK.
The meeting aimed to foster further development in defense collaboration between the US and Türkiye through new partnerships.
Prominent industry figures from both nations participated in discussions about future initiatives.
During the roundtable, CANiK's new factory, recently completed in the U.S., was highlighted as a pivotal example of collaboration.
CANiK's General Manager, Cahit Utku Aral, remarked that recent steps in defense relations between the two countries signify a new era. He emphasized ongoing joint projects between institutions and companies from both sides, noting CANiK's successful establishment of a production facility in the U.S. after meticulous planning and effort.
Aral emphasized that the investment in the U.S. was realized for the technology transfer and sale of medium-caliber weapons, which are produced within Samsun Yurt Savunma Group companies, of which CANiK is a part.
Pointing out the importance of strategic cooperation and technology transfers in the defense industry, Aral said that CANiK has been working in various countries in this direction, and that they have added a new dimension to these with the U.S. plant.
Aral noted that they aim to contribute to the strengthening of relations between the two countries through the activities they will carry out in the U.S., as they do in other countries.
