Türksat, which is leading the way in the space technology space in Turkey with bold steps, was founded 19 years ago today on July 22, 2004.
Türksat has become a global brand with its breakthroughs in recent years, but its history goes back further than its establishment date.
In 1968 the Peyk (satellite) Telecommunications Group Engineering Directorate was founded as part of the PTT General Directorate. Satellite and related services were transferred to Türk Telekomünikasyon Inc. Satellite communications services run by Türk Telekom were turned over to Türksat upon its July 22, 2004 establishment.
With the foundation of Türksat, Turkey quickly gained ground in the space, satellite and related fields.
Turkey’s first communications satellite Türksat 1B was launched into space on August 11, 1994.
Turkey’s second communications satellite Türksat 1C was launched into orbit on July 9, 1996.
The Türksat 2A satellite was launched into orbit on July 11, 2001.
The Türksat 3A communications satellite was launched into space on June 13, 2008.
Turkey’s first domestically designed and manufactured low earth orbiting satellite Türksat-3USAT was launched into space on April 26, 2013.
The Türksat 4A communications satellite was launched into space on February 14, 2014.
The Türksat 4B communications satellite was launched into space on October 15, 2015.
The Türksat 5A communications satellite was launched into space on January 8, 2021.
The Türksat 5B satellite was launched into space on December 19, 2021.
Turkey’s first domestic and national communications satellite Türksat 6A will be launched into orbit in 2023.
