Sweden on Monday announced its 17th military aid package for Ukraine worth 4.6 billion Swedish krona ($443 million).
“The package, worth SEK 4.6 billion, meets Ukraine’s military needs and creates freedom of action for the future. It includes donations of materiel, direct procurement, material units and financial contributions,” a Swedish Defense Ministry statement said.
Among other things, the package includes an unspecified number of RBS-70 short-range air defense systems, six additional CB-90 fast assault boats, various types and calibers of ammunition, anti-tank rockets, and mines.
The statement stressed that transferring JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets, which Ukraine expressed interest in, “is not a viable option, as it would interfere with the prioritized introduction of F-16 fighters.”
With this package, the total amount of military aid Sweden provided Ukraine with since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022 exceeded 48 billion Swedish krona ($4.63 billion).
