The Romanian government approved the donation of a battery of Patriot air-defense system to Ukraine, local media reported on Monday.
Speaking at news conference following a Cabinet meeting, government spokesman Mihai Constantin said the bill enabling the donation of a battery of Patriot air-defense system to Ukraine will be swiftly sent to the parliament, according to News.Ro news outlet.
Constantin added that the battery will quickly be shipped to Ukraine after the parliament’s approval.
In July, Romania signed a security cooperation deal with Ukraine.
In June, Romanian National Security Council announced the donation of Patriot system to Ukraine in response to Russian aerial attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure.
In 2017, the country signed a $4 billion deal to purchase seven such systems from the US.
