Mitsubishi Electric inks pilot contract with RTX's Raytheon to repair US fighter radars

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has signed a pilot contract with Raytheon, an RTX business, aimed at repairing transmitters used in APG-63 (V)1 F-15 fighter radars utilized by the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and allied forces, the Tokyo- based multinational company said in a press release Tuesday.

Under this initial agreement, Raytheon will evaluate Mitsubishi Electric's repair capabilities, with the expectation of potentially entering into future contracts for these services.

Since 2004, Mitsubishi Electric has held a Manufacturing License Agreement (MLA) with Raytheon for the production and repair of AN/APG-63 (V)1 radars used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF).

Building on this partnership, Mitsubishi Electric, in collaboration with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), and the JASDF, has now concluded this newly announced pilot contract with Raytheon.

This marks Mitsubishi Electric's inaugural opportunity to repair military equipment for the U.S. government.

Should a lasting contract materialize, Mitsubishi Electric plans to leverage its established manufacturing and repair systems, originally developed under agreements with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD) and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF).

Aligned with the Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology defined by the Japanese government in 2014, Mitsubishi Electric is dedicated to enhancing the Japan-U.S. security alliance through its involvement in the maintenance of U.S. military equipment.
