At the latest MSPO defense exhibition in Kielce, Poland, Hyundai WIA presented its latest lightweight artillery system mounted on a light tactical vehicle.
The company, part of the Hyundai Motor Group, was founded in 1976 and entered the defense sector in 1978. It has since become a manufacturer of artillery systems used on platforms such as Hyundai Rotem’s K2 main battle tank and Hanwha’s K9 self-propelled howitzer, both of which have been exported to Poland.
According to Hyundai WIA Business Support Team Manager Hyo-Won Jang, the newly displayed system marks the company’s move toward developing artillery platforms designed for light tactical vehicles. The system can be customized to different vehicle types and operational needs.
The new weapon system features a maximum firing range of 18 kilometers and operates as part of a three-vehicle set including an ammunition carrier, firing vehicle, and command vehicle. It requires only eight personnel for operation, emphasizing efficiency and reduced logistical demand.
Weighing around seven tons per vehicle, the system can be transported by heavy-lift helicopters such as the CH-47 Chinook. Testing was completed in August 2025, and the platform is now ready for export. Hyundai WIA aims to evolve from being a component supplier to an integrated defense systems manufacturer.
