The FREMM EVO naval program has completed its Critical Design Review, marking a key milestone that allows the project to move from design to production, program officials said Dec. 19.
The review was completed across all major areas of the program, including the platform, combat system and overall warship design with integrated logistic support. Officials said the successful completion confirms that the design meets all required technical and operational standards.
According to the program, the review was completed on schedule and keeps the project on track to deliver two next-generation frigates to the Italian Navy in June 2029 and June 2030.
The ships are being developed to provide enhanced capabilities to address evolving operational requirements and support maritime security missions, officials said.
The program is managed by the Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation, known as OCCAR, through its Horizon team, working with national and international partners. Officials said the milestone reflects coordinated efforts among the participating stakeholders involved in the program.
The FREMM EVO program is part of Italy’s broader naval modernization efforts aimed at sustaining and advancing its surface combatant fleet.
