Alexis Grenier, Sales Director at Eurosam, explained EUROSAM's progress and plans to expand their SAMP/T air defense system in an interview with Defensehere.
Grenier described EUROSAM as a "successful joint venture of MBDA and Thales. It's a successful European joint venture" and noted that "what counts to these two companies is not the product but customer satisfaction."
Regarding EUROSAM's SAMP/T air defense system, Grenier said:
"EUROSAM is dedicated to air defense systems, mid-range and long-range air defense systems. The SAMP/T today and the SAMP/T NG, the next generation.
The system has been developed for the domestic countries and UK, Italian and France, and then it's been used by the forces and recently, so two, three years ago the program has had a new booster with the domestic country ordering a new generation of systems, and that's the current development.
So it is really the best time for the expert to benefit from the development, from the non-recurring costs which have been already paid by the domestic customers and is the time to market is the best. The recent geopolitical context unfortunately highlighted and the need for performing air defense systems today and also our domestic countries have always devoted a lot of energy into having high performing systems."
“Huge demand” for SAMP/T in the Middle East
Expounding on EUROSAM’s plans for entering global markets, Grenier said:
“Not many of the countries in the world had invested so much, and today everybody is finding out the importance of such systems. So today we are answering to the customer needs all over the world, and especially in the Middle East. Because there is a huge demand for these systems which contribute direct fully to the sovereignty of the different countries.”
In 2022, Qatar sought to acquire SAMP/T air defense system but no agreement was reached. Other than France and Italy -the two countries Eurosam is based in- only Ukraine and Singapore operate SAMP/T air defense systems.
