May 4, 2010: Teknopark Istanbul, the deep-tech center with the largest area in Türkiye, was founded

Teknopark Istanbul was established 13 years ago today on May 4, 2010 in order to enable domestic and foreign entrepreneurs to contribute to Türkiye’s technology development capacity.

The establishment of Teknopark Istanbul, which has been the innovation center of Türkiye for 13 years, is based on the decisions of the Defense Industry Executive Committee dated October 8, 1987.

With the letter of intent signed between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and Istanbul Ticaret University on February 12, 2009, Teknopark Istanbul gained the status of Technology Development Zone (TDZ) with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated October 3 in accordance with the Technology Development Zones Law No. 4691 in the same year.

Teknopark Istanbul was officially established on May 4, 2010 and started its activities.

Teknopark Istanbul, which integrates the research capabilities of the universities in and around Istanbul, the qualified workforce and the experience of the region’s industry especially in the defense industry, is turning into an international attraction point with its ever-improving physical conditions.

In Teknopark Istanbul, there are more than 300 domestic and foreign companies, including companies like STM, Aselsan, TAI, TEI, Roketsan, BMC, Yaltes, C-Tech, Altınay Aerospace, Pavotek, Femsan, Armelsan, Kale Aero and Figes who are engaged in R&D studies for high technology developments in the fields of aerospace, maritime, advanced electronics, energy, health sciences and industrial software, especially in the defense industry.

Teknopark Istanbul, the deep-tech center with the largest area in Türkiye, aims to achieve an endorsement of 10 billion USD in 10 years, to employ more than 40 thousand R&D engineers, to increase the number of companies to more than 1000, and to achieve more than 300 incubation firms.
