Diehl Defence and Reliance Defence have reaffirmed and expanded their strategic partnership focused on guided and terminally guided munitions (TGM), under a cooperation framework that dates back to 2019.
During recent discussions, Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch and Reliance Group Chairman Anil D. Ambani reviewed progress on ongoing joint efforts, particularly regarding the supply of the Vulcano 155mm Precision Guided Munition system for the Indian Armed Forces.
The agreement builds on Diehl’s continued engagement with India’s defense sector and aligns with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative. According to the companies, the current phase of cooperation prioritizes rapid supply of the Vulcano system, while simultaneously advancing its localized production under the “Make in India-II” program.
Under this framework, Reliance Defence will serve as the prime contractor, with Diehl Defence acting as a strategic partner. The project aims to achieve over 50% indigenous content in the final product.
Helmut Rauch said the company was committed to strengthening ties with Indian partners and supporting India’s TGM capabilities.
Reliance Defence’s involvement also includes the development of a greenfield manufacturing complex in the Watad Industrial Area, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce up to 200,000 artillery shells annually, along with significant volumes of explosives and propellants.
