Brazil's SIATT looks abroad with targeted alliances and EDGE backing

From São José dos Campos, a city long regarded as the heart of Brazil’s aerospace and defense sector, SIATT is emerging as a key player in the smart weapons domain. Specializing in missile systems and surveillance technologies, the company is steadily expanding its reach through strategic partnerships and a growing portfolio of precision-guided munitions.

“We’re not just a systems integrator,” said Paulo Salvador, Commercial Director of SIATT, in an interview with Defensehere.com. “We are a technology company with full in-house R&D. Our teams are involved in developing every subsystem—from the components up to integration.”

Founded with a focus on domestic defense needs, SIATT now operates two facilities in southeastern Brazil and is positioning itself for broader international engagement.

Expanding Missile Families

SIATT currently manages two major missile programs. The first is the MANSUP anti-ship missile, a 70-kilometer range system developed for the Brazilian Navy. The second, now under advanced development, is the MANSUP-ER, an extended-range version capable of reaching targets up to 200 kilometers away.

“These can be launched from naval platforms or land vehicles,” said Salvador. “The anti-ship variants are the most mature, but we are also working on expanding our anti-tank missile family, with plans to increase range and versatility in future iterations.”

Alongside its missile programs, SIATT is also delivering coastal surveillance solutions. One ongoing project involves the installation of sensor towers along Brazil’s coastline to monitor maritime activity. “The goal is to identify vessels and assess their actions, whether legal or potentially suspicious,” Salvador explained.

Strategic Backing from EDGE

In 2023, UAE-based EDGE Group acquired a majority stake in SIATT. While EDGE holds 51% of shares, Salvador emphasized that the Brazilian firm maintains operational independence.

“EDGE has been a strong partner. They support us not just financially but also in terms of global market access,” he said. “They’ve helped us open new doors.”

The investment has accelerated SIATT’s role in a trilateral defense initiative involving EDGE and the Brazilian Navy, with the MANSUP-ER missile program at its core.

Selective International Partnerships Though firmly rooted in Brazil, SIATT has begun forging select industrial partnerships abroad. These include recent agreements with two Turkish companies Kale Jet Engines for jet propulsion and Repkon for advanced metal forming, both aimed at supporting the MANSUP-ER program.

With a $300 million contract already signed with the UAE Armed Forces and further discussions underway with potential buyers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, SIATT is navigating the transition from domestic supplier to global exporter.
