BAE Systems Hägglunds has partnered with Rheinmetall Weapon and Ammunition to integrate the 120mm L44A1 Low Recoil (LR) weapon system onto the latest CV90120 variant. The collaboration aims to combine the technological strengths of both European defense manufacturers to meet modern battlefield requirements.
“Our customers will benefit from the combined expertise and resources of our two companies, resulting in a solution that offers enhanced firepower, protection, and mobility – a winning combination on the modern battlefield,” said Tarkan Turkcan, CV90 platform director.
Rheinmetall’s 120mm L44A1 LR gun provides a high-pressure system compatible with all NATO-standard 120mm ammunition, including the DM11 programmable high-explosive round and enhanced kinetic energy rounds. The design enables effective performance across a wide range of operational scenarios.
The new CV90120 variant is built on the latest CV90 MkIV chassis and includes upgrades such as a new electronic architecture, active damping, a more powerful engine, a heavy-duty transmission, and an active protection system. The vehicle also allows for greater logistical efficiency through shared components and training with other CV90 infantry fighting vehicle users.
Offering the firepower of a modern main battle tank and the tactical agility of an infantry fighting vehicle, the CV90120 is designed to deliver high levels of direct firepower at a lower cost.
More than 1,400 CV90s have been produced in 17 variants for 10 European countries under the CV90 User Group. The platform has seen operational deployment in various missions, including UN and NATO operations.
