BAE Systems advances AMPV upgrades with new mission kits

BAE Systems is set to begin fielding a series of new capability kits and integrated systems for the U.S. Army’s Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV), aimed at expanding the vehicle’s operational versatility and readiness.

The company is using internal funding and the AMPV’s modular chassis as a foundation to develop a range of prototype configurations. Each configuration will feature specific technologies focused on emerging battlefield needs, such as counter-UAS capabilities, autonomous operations, and remote weapon systems.

According to BAE Systems, the initiative includes a collaboration-based approach designed to accelerate the integration of mission-focused technologies. The company has emphasized its intent to move quickly, citing the importance of delivering adaptable solutions that align with evolving operational demands.

Over the past two years, BAE Systems has already integrated five turreted prototype systems onto the AMPV platform. These include unmanned 30mm weapon systems and a modular turreted mortar, all developed using a modular open systems architecture.

The company plans to release additional information about its industry partners and the full scope of the new capability kits later in this summer.
